Work for Mavar

Are you interested in part-time work for a local Jewish charity?

MAVAR is seeking a Volunteers and Communications Manager for 1 – 2 days a week.  The hours are flexible and you largely work from home, with the exception of meetings.

As well as responsibility for social media and managing the volunteers, the role also includes supporting the Executive Director with the charity’s development, fund-raising, written and online resources and general administration. For a job description, please email or call Linda: 07513 658 038.  The deadline for applications is 30th January.

MAVAR supports men and women who have grown up in the closed world of ultra-orthodoxy, and now wish to explore alternative pathways in the wider world. Recognising the individual’s right to self-determination, the charity enables callers to make informed choices about their future, and fosters independence, emotional resilience and cultural integration.

Do you have a parent with dementia?

Could You Become an Ambassador for Camp Simcha?

Camp Simcha supports families coping with serious childhood illness. We’re asking people to become Ambassadors for Camp Simcha so that they understand what we do and who we help, and can refer anyone they come across in the future for our help.

It’s really not a big commitment in any way – just attend a training seminar in February 2020 and then be Camp Simcha’s “eyes and ears” in the community, so that no Jewish child slips through the net. We promise not to ask Ambassadors to donate or fundraise for us… but they will help us to spread the word that Camp Simcha is here for all Jewish families who need us. Naomi Cohen would love to hear from you – please call on 07932 772 707 for more information or email

At least four members of FRS (and several more from a neighbouring synagogue) have hosted refugees. However, we urgently need more hosts in this area of London. Our organisation Refugees at Home ( offers ongoing support to our hosts so you will not be alone . If you would like to hear more about the scheme, please email me, Marion Kafetz, and I will be happy to speak to you.
